Structured cabling categories:

  • Category 5e – Rated to 100 MHz and suitable for 1 Gbit/s Ethernet, making it a practical option for standard networks with moderate demands.
  • Category 6 – Rated to 250 MHz and suitable for 1 Gbit/s Ethernet, with improved signal performance and interference protection compared with Category 5e.
  • Category 6A – Rated to 500 MHz and designed to support 10 Gbit/s Ethernet for more demanding applications and large data transfers.
  • Category 7 – Rated to 600 MHz and suitable for 10 Gbit/s connections, with shielding that helps protect against electromagnetic interference.
  • Category 7A – Rated to 1000 MHz and suitable for 10 Gbit/s connections, providing additional bandwidth for demanding installations.
